MUSIC & MEMORY® HOSA Student Training
This phenomenal Student volunteer video was funded through a grant from the May and Stanley Smith Foundation. It shows how Texas Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) are educated in their classrooms about dementia, using “A Snapshot on Aging Dementia" curriculum created by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). Students are trained as volunteers with resources provided by Music and Memory. These trained student volunteers are linked for service to local certified Music and Memory Nursing Facilities.

The power of music is REAL!🙌 🎶
I'm going to have to watch this periodically. I was happy to see Henry's face light up when he heard his type of music. 😊😊😊😊😊
Actually giving these people some simulation in these places seems to make them happier, mad..
Thx you Ceazs hernandez for all the music
Thx you Ceazs hernandez 🧐
Why is that woman saying her This must be two different videos together
To see Henry literally come back to life, Absolutely Amazing.
Against all ugly things in this world, story's like these make me appriciate to be alive.
I have watched this video at least 5 times over the months and am deeply moved each time. I believe in the magic of music to touch the mind and soothe the soul. I love watching Henry, over and over.
Does anyone remember 2020? When the elderly with dementia were deprived of contact with their loved ones? Does anyone know how many do-no-resuscitate orders are signed by doctors to people just because they’re a burden for the health and care services? Does anyone care that the owners of privately run care homes don’t hire staff because they must protect their profits? This fucking world!
This gave me joy.
I will forever love this video. Wish this channel made more and didn’t stop 5 years ago.
I remember seeing this video for the first time as an early teen . It made me so happy ❤️ It was another reason I’ve always wanted to work with elderly people & Now I do 🥰🤞🏾 Absolutely love my job !
4:25 like it or not, he's spitting facts.
its cab calloway adlibs
Their is truth in this, When I was 14,i had a buddy, same age, but he was raised by his elderly grandmother. She taught him dozens of late victorian music hall songs. We used to slip into our local pub, where a dozen elderly ladies, with hairnets, and long coats, would sip on half pints of beer, allmost in silence. My buddy would shout name any song and I'll sing it. They would name a real old song and he would stand there and sing it for them. Those old ladies would come alive, laughing, singing along, clapping. We allways got free candy from them.
🙏🏿 Amen.
I love old people
The fact that he can sing better than me in this video is amazing
Best rendition of I'll be home for Christmas I've ever heard.
Why isn't this being done in all memory care centers!?
This is a great video, although I don't know who produced it, but coming in with the loud music at the end, drowning out what the speaker is saying is just ridiculous.
MR HENRY! YOU ARE LOVED!
Love this
Music is a gift from God
The elderly love music from their era I have fond memories of singing with them I am a firm believer of mind stimulation and I have took care of the the elderly and they are a lot of fun 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Why didn't you take him home with you....his daughter. That poor old man...been there for 10 years. It is shameful what we do to our elderly in America. No other place on earth...treat their elderly the way we do. Pitiful.
He's probably dead by now.
Wow I'm so glad I watched this. So beautiful his reaction. 😊❤
❤🙏❤️
Beautiful
Geriatric nurse here. They are blessed to still be alive 🙏🏼. I love my job.😊
So beautiful and profound. :)
Music is wonderful, powerful, and vibrant. Beautiful!
I used to play hymns at my local nursing home, and one lady with dementia couldn’t hold a conversation, but she didn’t miss one word of every hymn I would play! Music is life changing!
Wow, amazing 👏 Henry's eyes just lit up, and he became so animated, alive again 😊
When i get this old i want my kids to play Ice Cube and public enemy for me.
Henry is female ?? Nurse/carer stated that story at the beginning of the video. Headphones are now called ipods and are "new technology" ?? Why do I feel this is a "staged" video ?
Henry was right ON IT after listening to the music.
This is amazing
this is beatiful
This is the sweetest thing I've ever seen. <3
So i guess they don't let them hear music in nursing homes 😢
This brought a smile to my face.
Here's another video of a man with Parkinson's and his caregiver who uses music to help him walk. It's just as amazing as this video. ruclips.net/video/uDjQ7lKmH3s/видео.html
*introduced to ipods* *12 YEARS AGO* where's my cane, I need to be in that nursing home, I'm old AS FUCK
💋
Tears of pure joy came to my eyes enjoying this video watching this wonderful man literally come back to life listening to his favorite music from his youth :)
Check out the documentary alive inside. Great documentary on the topic of music therapy and how it helps dementia patients.
Oh, I wonder if this dear man is still with us. I can't believe this video is from 12 years ago.
